Principles, Values and Administrative Issues

Academic Freedom
The College imposes no upper limit to the level of academic freedom in the discussions, draws no boundaries to thinking, and places no shackles on creativity.
 
General Framework
All educational activities and academic inclinations of the students fall within the general framework of the higher studies program adopted by the College.

Adoptability
Unless officially adopted by the College’s Internal Board, all papers, studies, discussions, and academic and educational activities express only the views of individuals and do not represent the policies of the Royal Jordanian National Defense College, the Jordanian Armed Forces, or the Jordanian Government.br>  
Non-Attribution
The policy of the RJNDC does not permit the public attribution to visiting lecturers, nor to their views or inclinations, political or otherwise, especially those they discussed within the precincts of the College. However, students may use such views in their discussions without specific reference to the originator.
 
Press Appearance
Neither the students nor the Faculty members are authorized to discuss with the media any subject with a direct or indirect relationship to the NDC program of higher studies unless given a special permission by the college in concert with the laws and regulations of the general Headquarters of the Armed Forces.
 
Copyright
All papers produced by the RJNDC, whether through the national Defense program, seminar results, class discussions, or any other academic activities, are official property of the RJNDC  whether through the national Defense program, seminar results, class discussions, or any other academic activities, are official property of the RJNDC Headquarters which has the right to dispose of them and as is harmonious with its goals and general objectives. The policy of the RJDNC will not allow any leakage of such information to other colleges, universities, and study centers without a special approval from the College’s Internal Board.
 
Publication in the Press
All knowledge produced within the framework of the RJNDC’s National Defense Program is not to be published by the media, whether national or otherwise, except as may be done through the official coverage of the occasion and in agreement with the general policy of the College.
 
Timings and Working Hours
The policy of the RJNDC stipulates that both Faculty members and students fully adhere to the timings and working hours as they appear in the weekly schedules.

RJNDC Badge
National Defense Course graduates are given the Badge of the Course to be worn on the flap of the left breast pocket of the military uniform but on the left lapel of the civilian jacket. They are also given the Course Pin to be fixed on the left lapel of the mess jacket or civilian jacket.
 
Reporting to the college
All students, Jordanian or otherwise, report to the RJNDC 48 hours before the beginning of the Preliminary Stage of the National Defense Course.

Courses opening and graduation
The Royal Jordanian National Defense College has maintained the Royal Jordanian War College tradition that graduation of the main course (National Defense Course) takes place in the prosperous Royal Court under the patronage of His Majesty, King Abdullah II Bin Al-Hussein, the Supreme Commander of the Jordanian Armed Forces. Course opening, on the other hand, takes place at the RJNDC and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff opens the Courses.
 
Military Uniforms
  • Upon reporting to the RJNDC, the student should have enough military uniforms to include season uniforms for both summer and winter, No 1 uniform (Daraki), and battle dress uniform (fatigue uniform), and appropriate civilian clothes.
  • Students wear military uniforms as follows:
  • No 1 uniform (Daraki) on Opening Day, Graduation Day, and the first Thursday of every month.
  • Season uniform daily throughout the working hours.
  • Battle dress uniform (BDU) as instructed in the weekly schedules.
  • Civilian suits in formal social functions.
  • Students should remove head-covers (hats, caps, berets, etc) whenever they move under a roof at the RJNDC.
  • Non-Jordanian students are respectfully, reminded that the Jordanian weather is cold in winter and moderately warm in summer.
     
Civilian Dress
Civilians are expected to wear a suit and tie throughout the day during the course they are attending. No overcoat may be worn in the study halls.
 
Nametag
Students, military and civilian alike, should wear their issued nametags throughout the course.
 
Attendance
All scholars should adhere to attend lectures, discussions, exercises and visits determined in college curricula.

Leaves
 
Vacations and holidays
Scholars will be off on official and religious occasions duly scheduled on instruction program. They are to be granted one week recess at the end of each semester (3-per courses). However a two week vacation at the end of the courses will be granted, as well. 
 
In country leaves
Vacations on official and religious occasions must be spent within Jordan. Should there be a need for a local, short or compassionate leave, it would then be requested through completing a standard form at least 24 hours ahead of time, knowing that a request for forced leave during the course is limited only to the case of death of one of the close relatives for the scholar.
 
Overseas leaves
Requests for overseas or home-country leaves may officially be submitted to the RJNDC command at least one month ahead of time. Sudden or unjustifiable request will not be considered. Scholars' attention must be called that request for overseas or homeland leaves under justifiable conditions and with one month notice are only acceptable within the already prescribed one-week semester leave.
 
Jordanian scholars
They are granted overseas leave according to the Jordanian armed forces regulations.
 
Dismissal from the college
  • scholars will be dismissed from the course (either national defense or war courses) in the following cases:
  • if the absent days exceeded (16) sixteen consecutive days for any reason.
  • If the total absence exceeded  twenty different days.
  • If a dismissal decision issued against him from a competent authority because of his violation of the regulations and instructions of the college.
  • Any scholar proves incompetence academically and professionally to continue the course.
  • a scholar who was dismissed because of his absence for a satisfactory excuse might participate in a subsequent course.
  • satisfactory excuse require to provide a certificate issued by a medical authority to the College Board, and to provide such certificate to the President of the College Board during a period not exceeding one week from the date of absence of the scholar attendance.

Use of Vehicles
Students and Faculty members are expected to adhere to speed limits when driving their cars within the limits of the RJNDC and to park their cars in the designated parking lots.
