His
Eminence the Grand Mufti of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Dr. Ahmad
al-Hasanat, delivered a lecture on Monday at the Royal Jordanian National
Defense College, titled "The Role of Fatwa in Confronting the Phenomenon
of Extremism and Terrorism and the Impact on National Security." The
lecture was attended by students in the 21st Defense Course, and was attended
by the College's Chairman and members of directing staff
He
stated that extremism can be either fanaticism or dissent, and in both cases,
it deviates from the moderate, middle path. In both cases, each attributes
truth to itself, and both are misguided and misleading.
He
explained that extremism takes two forms: the first is that it shuns religion
and seeks to exclude it from people's hearts and minds, preventing it from
influencing their lives and societies.
The
second is extremism in its understanding of religion, which is rigid and
intransigent in its interpretation of its concepts and rulings. Islam has
prohibited both types of extremism and has emphasized its prohibition against
them, considering extremists to be outside the path of Muslims because they
have abandoned the traditions of Islam and have been strict in their adherence
to its obligations.
At
the end of the lecture, an extended discussion took place, during which
al-Hasanat responded. To the questions and inquiries of the audience.
