Al-Khraisheh:
Jordan has been committed to the project of renaissance and modernity since its
founding
Minister
of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Haditha Al-Khraisheh affirmed that
Jordan was founded on the Arab Renaissance project, the principles of the Great
Arab Revolt, and the values of modernity since its founding. The state has
been committed to involving citizens in the decision-making process, out of its
belief in freedom and democracy based on the participation of all without
excluding any political component from various ideologies.
This
came during a lecture he delivered to students in the 20th Defense Course and
the "Strategies for Confronting Extremism and Terrorism 7" Master's
Program on Thursday at the Royal Jordanian National Defense College. The
lecture was titled "The Path of Political Modernization: Its Concept and
Directions." The lecture was attended by the college's commandant, the
head, and members of its guidance body.
Al-Khraisheh
reviewed the stages of development in political and party life since 1928,
following the issuance of the Basic Law of the Jordanian State, up to the
current political modernization process. He highlighted the constitutional
amendments that have been made, and the most prominent features of the
electoral and political parties laws. He noted that continuous modernization in
all areas is what Jordan always strives for in order to develop, build, and
achieve. He also noted that political modernization is an irreversible
necessity for the development of an effective democracy based on political
pluralism and the presence of national parties with clear platforms for all
issues. Citizens are convinced of this, given the existence of laws and
legislation regulating political life, evidenced by the increasing number of
political party memberships, particularly among youth and women, as there is no
legislative environment as supportive of women and youth as there is in Jordan.
The Minister highlighted the characteristics of the political modernization
process, characterized by continuity and dynamism, which are based on the
concept of proportionality, as found in all advanced societies. He also
highlighted the foundations of the political modernization process, which are
based on the Constitution, royal mandates for governments, discussion papers,
national documents and initiatives, international covenants and conventions
ratified by Jordan, and the outcomes of the Royal Committee for Modernizing the
Political System. He noted that His Majesty the King's discussion papers set a
roadmap for the political modernization process in Jordan and defined the role
of all components of society in this process.
The
Minister pointed out that Jordan respects all opinions and opposing views, and
that the institution of the throne maintains an equal distance from Jordanians
and all political forces. Our wise leadership oversees the affairs of state in
a manner of which we are proud. He added that Jordan has always engaged with
the issues of the Arab nation, especially the Palestinian cause, and despite
the surrounding circumstances, it has maintained its stability and
steadfastness, as the democratic process proceeds within the legal timeframes stipulated
in the Constitution.
He
called on citizens to engage with political parties, engage in party work, and
expand the base of participation by exercising the right to vote through the
ballot box.
At
the end of the lecture, an open discussion took place during which the Minister
answered all the students' questions and inquiries.
