On Tuesday Dr. Nael Al-Hussami, Director
General of the Amman Chamber of Industry, delivered a lecture titled "The
Global Economic Environment and Its Impact on the National Economy." The
lecture was presented to scholars in the 21st Defense and 7th Master's Program
in Strategies for Countering Extremism and Terrorism. The lecture was attended
by the college commander and the head and members of the directing staff.
He
stated that more than 45% of Jordanian imports are raw materials, goods, and
intermediate goods for manufacturing purposes. This is due to the scarcity of
natural resources in Jordan and its need to import to cover this deficit.
He
explained that at the beginning of the third millennium, the Kingdom adopted a
policy of open trade by joining the World Trade Organization in 2000. This
agreement constitutes an international umbrella that helps Jordan protect its
economic interests from any negative effects resulting from the development of
new concepts for regional cooperation among the member states. This agreement
has thus increased investment flowing into the Kingdom, doubling the size of
the gross domestic product and foreign trade.
