Today, The head of the Jordanian Atomic Energy Authority, Dr. Khaled Touqan, give a lecture entitled "Arms Control and Preventing the Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons for the scholars of the 18th National Defense Course, in the presence of the college commandant, head and members of the directing staff. Toukan said: “The authority’s work is focused on implementing the comprehensive vision and strategy of the Jordanian nuclear program for peaceful purposes, exploiting the natural nuclear resources in Jordan, especially uranium, and building and developing the capabilities and human cadres needed to implement the Jordanian nuclear program by strengthening the infrastructure for nuclear science and its applications in education and research Scientific and community service, establishing a nuclear power plant for the production of electricity and water desalination, and strengthening cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and with friendly countries with expertise in the field of nuclear energy. During the lecture, videos were shown showing the most important achievements on the ground through the establishment of the Jordanian nuclear reactor for research, training and the latest developments on establishing the pilot plant for uranium extraction in the central Jordan region and the Synectron Light Center for Experimental Sciences and Applications SESAME. He indicated that the Jordanian government signed an agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency to implement nuclear guarantees within the framework of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in 1974 and the additional agreements and protocols that emerged from it related to nuclear energy, which enhances the Kingdom's credibility in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and the right to possess nuclear. The head of the Atomic Energy Commission affirmed Jordan's firm position that the presence of any undeclared or unguaranteed nuclear facility in the Middle East constitutes a threat to peace in the region At the end of the lecture, an extended discussion took place, during which Dr. Toukan answered the scholars ’questions and inquiries.
