The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources lectures at the Royal Jordanian National Defense College

On Tuesday, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Eng. Hala Zawati gave a lecture to scholars of the 18th National Defense Course entitled “The National Energy Strategy and Strategic Alternatives to Oil in Jordan,” in the presence of the College commandant, Dr. Awad Tarawneh, and the Chairman and members of directing staff Zawati said that the scenario adopted in the energy sector strategy for the years 2020-2030 is the scenario of self-reliance by strengthening local energy sources from 15 percent in 2019 to 48.5 percent in the field of electricity generation. She indicated that the strategy included a number of sectoral goals from which a set of programs and projects emerged as part of an implementation plan to ensure its achievement, including diversification of energy sources and forms, reducing energy costs on the national economy and improving energy efficiency in various sectors. Zawati confirmed the ministry’s efforts to reduce poverty and unemployment levels and build an effective social system, such as the partnership project with the Ministry of Social Development for installing solar energy systems for poor and needy families, improving the level of services provided to citizens and fair distribution. She said that the percentage of electricity produced from renewable energy in the Kingdom increased from 1% in 2014 to 21% by the end of 2020, "and we are considered first in relying on renewable energy." At the end of the lecture, an extended discussion took place, during which the minister answered the scholars ’questions and inquiries.
