 On Monday ,The Secretary-General of the Higher Population Council, Professor Dr. Issa Al-Masarwa, delivered a lecture at the Royal Jordanian National Defense College, entitled: "Population Policy and its Relationship to Jordanian National Security," to scholars in the 23rd Defense Course, in the presence of the Commandant, the President, and members of the Directing Staff of the College.

 

In his lecture, he stated that population policy is a national effort aimed at influencing direct demographic changes, which necessitates the development of adaptive socio-economic policies and legislation that respond to the demographic situation without unintendedly altering it.

 

Al-Masarwa explained: "Demographic changes have significant overall and general repercussions on all national sectors and needs, and their effects may continue for many decades to come. Therefore, these changes must receive special attention due to their close connection to national security in its various dimensions: economic, environmental, political, military, security, social, and familial."

 

He emphasized that rapid population growth and the young age structure of the population require the state to allocate substantial resources; To meet basic human needs for security, housing, food, energy, education, health, and employment, noting that the population has more than doubled and the percentage of non-Jordanians has increased significantly in the last 20 years.

 

He pointed out that the presence of refugees has imposed additional demographic, economic, environmental, security, and informational burdens.
