Minister of Justice Dr. Bassam Talhouni affirmed that
strengthening the independence of the judiciary is a top priority for the
government, stemming from its belief that justice is the cornerstone of
building a state of law and institutions, and a pivotal element in achieving
comprehensive national security. He explained that the government, under the
guidance of His Majesty the King, is working to develop the justice system and
modernize legislation, in addition to advancing the digital transformation of
judicial services, in order to achieve swift justice, consolidate the
principles of transparency and accountability, and keep pace with the
requirements of administrative and institutional development.
This came during a lecture he delivered today at the Royal
Jordanian National Defense College entitled "The Jordanian Judicial System
and its Role in Consolidating Jordanian National Security," in the
presence of the Commandant, the Head and members of the Directing Staff, and
the scholars of the 23rd National Defense Course.
Al-Talhouni explained that the concept of comprehensive
national security is not limited to military and security aspects alone, but
extends to include legal and judicial security, which is a cornerstone in
protecting rights and freedoms and strengthening trust between citizens and the
state. He emphasized that strengthening the concept of comprehensive national
security requires integration and coordination among the various state
institutions, which contributes to consolidating the rule of law and
institutions and achieving sustainable development.
He also pointed out that the existence of an independent and
impartial judiciary constitutes a true guarantee for preserving rights,
achieving justice, and consolidating the rule of law, which enhances political,
social, and economic stability.
During the lecture, Al-Talhouni addressed the vital role of
the judiciary in combating corruption, safeguarding the state's values and
higher interests, preserving national security, and fighting crime. He
emphasized that the independence of the judiciary is fundamental to
establishing the principles of justice and equality, and that swift and
transparent justice is the most important guarantee for building citizens'
trust in state institutions and ensuring their stability.
At the end of the lecture, an extensive discussion took
place, during which Al-Talhouni answered questions and inquiries from the
audience.
