On Tuesday Former Minister Dr.
Abdullah Oweidat delivered a lecture to scholars in the 22nd Defense Course and
the 8th Master's Program in Strategies for Countering Extremism and Terrorism
at the Royal Jordanian National Defense College
The lecture was titled "The Economic,
Political, and Cultural Impacts of Globalization: The Jordanian Case." The
lecture was attended by the Commandant, the Chairman, and members of the directing
staff.
During the lecture, he spoke about
the concept of globalization and its aim to unify economic, intellectual, and
social activities into a single global format without taking into account
religious, cultural, social, or ethnic differences. This has led to negative
economic, political, and social impacts that threaten national security,
especially in developing countries.
He explained that the most prominent
of these negative impacts are poverty, unemployment, the collapse of emerging
economies, the disintegration of the social fabric, and the impact on values and traditions.
He emphasized that there are many
positives to globalization, and that governments must work to regulate its pace
to serve national interests and goals.
At the end of the lecture, an extended
discussion took place, during which the lecturer answered questions from the
audience
